Do not be lured by the short cut

I am led to talk about short cuts today. Shorts cuts are ordinarily supposed to be easier, faster, less tedious routes to our destinations. We all love short cuts. After all who would like to spend five years doing one thing when it can be done in five months? Why would we ordinarily prefer the slow, hard route, the route of blood and tears when there is an easier route.

However while taking short cuts might seem to have some sort of dividend in the world ( and that is extremely debatable) or have less repercussions, that “hurrying, too smart to go the long route” mentality is foolhardy and dangerous in the spiritual realm.

First of all there is nothing like short cut or cutting corners when it comes to the things of God.

You have to pass through the road, do the work, and get trained in the process for the journey ahead. Look through the Bible and tell me one person of note who used the short cut successfully. Go on! I am still waiting ?.

Short cuts cannot take you to your place of promise.

Short cut

They end up wasting your time and often end in disappointment. Spiritual short cuts often leave you worse than you started.

I remember the pathetic story of a pretty woman from a rich home, my mum’s sisters friend who was looking for a husband and went to see a “baba” as in a herbalist. Baba did what he does best and after everything told her that the first person she saw the next day was her husband. My people! I heard this story solely because of the sheer ugliness of this woman’s husband. He was a doctor but so ugly. As in anybody meeting her husband for the first time would wonder where on earth they met because the woman was just so pretty and that is how my mum narrated what joined them together. Now! That is not even the end of the story. As I speak to you the woman has been dead for some years. I was shocked when I heard. Apparently she was ill , and the husband prevented her relatives from having access to her. He only told them to come carry her dead body after her death.

Fam! Please what did she gain? She took short cut and she’s dead while the husband is still alive.

There’s no short cut even to heaven.

I told the people in my Sunday school class that no one enters heaven by mistake. Getting to Heaven on earth is a conscious decision.

There is a reason why the narrow road is preferable to the wide road. There has to be a deliberate action and awareness of heaven right on earth. There’s willingness to obey God, sacrifice and discipline yourself.

Short cuts do not train and prepare you for the journey ahead.

Short cut

Beloved! There’s a reason why the Israelites spent forty years on a journey of forty days. There is a reason why David and Moses spent years in training before they fulfilled their purpose.

No short cut when it comes to having a relationship with God.

You can’t ignore Jesus to get to God. There has to be acknowledgement that Jesus is the son of God. You have to work at it, Pray, and study the word of God. You have to know God and love him, fear , honour and worship him.

No short cut to spiritual power and authority.

A lot of fake prophets and pastors hoodwink people with fake and staged miracles, fake visions and prophecies just because we are too lazy to make the sacrifice, discipline ourselves, fast and pray and talk to God ourselves.

It is the love that people have for short cut that allows this fake prophets thrive.

No short cut to deliverance.

A lot of people are oppressed because they know they’re under oppression, but seek for deliverance in Egypt instead of running to God for deliverance. They have bad dreams and go to a baba who gives them concoctions and tell them to bring their fingernails and hair. They graduate from having bad dreams to having bad visions and seeing apparitions.

Short cuts look short but in reality often aren’t.

Taking Short cuts can end up wasting your time so much that you arrive later than if you had been patient and waited upon the Lord. Am I the only one who has ever taken a physical road that ends up being almost as long or even longer than the longer routes?

Do not take a short cut to help God along.

He doesn’t need our help. Let’s take a look at Abraham and the short cut Hagar. He thought he could fast forward God’s promise but Nah! He still had to wait for Isaac. The child of promise.

Taking the short cut can be very dangerous .

Short cut

Short cuts give room for attacks and gain ground for the devil. This is because you may encounter battles that God did not have in mind for you. God is taking you through the long cut for a reason and sometimes it’s dangerous to run ahead of God’s divine timing.

Anyone who wants to enter the promised land, who is believing God for one thing or the other, who wants a relationship with God, why wants to be a prophet, who wants to go to heaven, who waits on the Lord cannot afford to go through the short cut.

Very deep. I love this. No one makes heaven by mistake. Not even by wishful thinking. Its a conscious effort. Thanks for emphasizing this fact.

Thank you Yetunde for your words. That’s just my realisation. Everything spiritual takes work. Heaven, Holiness, spiritual power, relationship with God, hearing from God etc. All this requires some level of willingness, consecration and determination.

Yes sister! No short cut for deliverance. No short cut to knowing God. We must pay the price to reap the right fruits. Short cuts will only bring us pain. Thank you for sharing this!

Yes oh. No matter how one looks at it there’s just no short cut. Short cuts come about as a result of not wanting to pay the price and only brings pain and regrets. Some want the yoke of barrenness, shame, infirmity to be broken but aren’t willing to allow God do the ultimate. They want sharp-sharp and they get sharp sharp. Thing is sharp sharp doesn’t stand the test of time.
      Thanks dear.

Wow! The story about that unfortunate pretty lady just left me feeling some type of way. Because even today these things are happening everyday! People are still believing in these false prophets and babalawos…even worse is the fact that some do it claiming it’s in God’s. God help us. For me it’s been quite a journey seeking God’s face and learning to be patient trusting what he says concerning me will come to pass. I think it’s important to have people to keep you accountable so that the moment you start contemplating a short cut, they just set you straight. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah! Really pathetic story. It was pathetic when I realized what led her to marry him and is even more pathetic looking at the end result. Wasted life, time and destiny.
False prophets and babalawos are just gimmicks of the devil to enslave people and it stems from ignorance. When you hear the things people do, you realize they don’t really know the import of this things. “Bring your sanitary pad, drink blood, go to cemetery, pound new born baby in mortars ” etc. Yeah this makes us shudder but Joan, even as I speak someone somewhere is going to see one Baba ?.
There was a time in my younger days when I used to want solution too but luckily for me all those prophets never seemed to know the problem how much more solution. Sometimes they even added to my problems Lol. And after you became born again you realize just how easily Satan uses this “solution channels” to further cage, capture and destroy destinies. Some have become second wives and become sexually abused because of these.
