Are you just waiting or waiting upon the Lord?

They shall mount up with wings,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles

For some reason the above words from a hymn came to me from sleep some days back. I couldn’t sleep again as I meditated on the words. And I realised how apt the Bible verse the song came from was and why we need to wait upon the Lord. Isaiah 40:31 says :

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.
NKJV

Can you see the promises of God for those who wait upon him.  Waiting upon the Lord is the key term here. Waiting by your power can be tasking and tedious. It can be exhausting, hopeless and depressing. Waiting is one of the hardest things for me to do physically. I am naturally impatient by nature so it is a wonder that I have being able to wait patiently for God’s promises to come to pass.

Waiting upon the lord

That is only possible because I stopped waiting and started waiting upon the Lord.

 Ha! If I tell you the things my eyes have seen and my ears have heard in this waiting period, you would be surprised (or not).  When you wait by your power and expectations, It can be hard, you may get depressed,  it can make you discouraged and eventually you get tired and give up, you settle for less or seek for help in places you shouldn’t.

 Which is why we cannot just wait.

We have to wait upon the Lord. Some people wonder why I am so content in this my waiting period, they don’t know that it is because I am waiting upon the Lord ?. I stopped feeling pressured or being afraid that I was waiting in vain or that my prayers were not going to be answered.

I stopped waiting in fear and wait in trust.

I am waiting confidently. Happily! Boy! Am I confident? As long as God exists, his words over my life must surely come to pass.

Sure there are off days, but those never last long. Waiting upon the Lord gives you strength and hope. That’s what the Bible means when it says” Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” .

Beloved! You need that strength to be renewed lest you get tired.

Waiting upon the lord

There are times when you are going to get weary of waiting, feel lonely in that waiting period , when you want to give up but the Bible says:

They shall run and not be weary: they shall and not faint.

There is a difference between waiting and waiting upon the Lord. And I beseech us to wait on the Lord for that Child, healing, marriage, job, international job, visa, career change, deliverance, money, ministry, etc.

And for everyone who is waiting upon the Lord I leave you with this comforting hymn.

Ho, reapers in the whitened harvest

 CGS NO :508

Verse 1
Ho, reapers in the whitened harvest
Oft, feeble, faint, and few;
Come, wait upon the blessed Master,
Our strength He will renew.

Chorus
For they that wait upon the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles

They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
Shall walk and not faint.

Verse 2
Too oft a weary and discouraged,
We pour a sad complaint;
Believing in a living Saviour,
Why should we ever faint?

Chorus
For they that wait upon the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles

They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
Shall walk and not faint.

Verse 3
Rejoice! for He is with us alway,
Lo, even to the end!
Look up! take courage and go forward
All needed grace He’ll send!

Chorus
For they that wait upon the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles

They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary
Shall walk and not faint. Source

    Thanks for reminding me of that powerful scripture. “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” Waiting on God is an integral part of the Christian walk. We always have to wait for something from Him. This is why patience is a fruit of the spirit. May He help us to wait on Him and not lose hope.

    Have a great week, dear.

      Indeed waiting is integral to the Christian walk. Waiting on God isn’t punishment or something evil. Some of the great people in the Bible waited for years for the manifestation or God’s promise.
      Amen. Thanks dear.

    thanks sis for this soul-lifting piece. it’s indeed pertinent to receive dt GRACE to wait on d Lord. many think things have to start working out automatically as soon as they proclaim Christ as their Lord, forgetting dt we have to go through some ‘making’, thus losing their faith and doubting the potency of God’s might.

      You are right, grace to wait in God is very necessary. It is not an easy something ?.
      Yeah! That was something I had to learn. After being born again, then you grow spiritually , go through the making, become the person that is ready to receive that promise and achieve that purpose. And one of the ways to do that is patience and trusting in God while waiting on him.
      I had to go from “give me this now now “, “what have I done wrong? ” to “Lord, let your will be done”.
