Seven ways God speaks to us

We do not need any special occasion , venue, or circumstances to hear from God. Right in your bedroom, in the market, while jogging, in the Church, anywhere, you can hear from God.

Let’s now look into the different ways God communicates with us. If you missed the first part, please read it Here .

1) The Audible voice.

This might not be so common nowadays but GOD still speaks audibly. Don’t forget that Samuel in the Bible heard God’s  voice. So did Moses, and countless other prophets. Even in the New Testament, God spoke out concerning Jesus on more than one occasion. In the same vein, Saul ( Paul ) heard Jesus’s voice asking why he persecuted Him.

2) The still silent voice.

The Holy Spirit can speak to you in a very quiet voice from inside of you. It isn’t audible. No one hears it but you. And you are liable to doubt where it is coming from if you aren’t used to that method of communication. One important thing is that you have to be silent in your spirit, you have to be in communion with the Holy Spirit.

Think of yourself as a radio or a TV, and Heaven as a Broadcasting station. The closer you are to heaven ( in the Spirit) , the better your signal, the more you hear from God.

And the great thing is that once you start hearing  from the Holy Spirit this way, you hear more and more. Whatever the Holy Spirit tells you will be edifying, and it will never counter God’s commandments.

3) Dreams.

This is one of the most common means by which God communicates with us. Our lives are often so busy that the only time God can tell us  anything is when we are asleep. Dreams were favored as a means of communication in the Bible. Pharaoh dreamt and needed Joseph to interpret, Daniel interpreted Dreams, Joseph was told in a dream not to leave Mary, and warned to leave town because of Herod. Solomon had a dream, Jacob too dreamt.

Dreams are important means of communication and I am of the opinion that everybody dreams. You just may forget when you wake up. It’s also important that you interpret your dreams correctly. Dreams of eating in sleep, dead people, coffins, having sex in the dream etc aren’t to be ignored. Especially if they reoccur.

Dreams can be a very wide topic and one I am passionate about. I hope to talk more on it maybe next year. We can talk about interpretations, how dreams can change your life,  how to know dreams that are from God, what to do after a bad dream etc.

Visions are like camera or video images. When you have a vision, it seems so real and life like until you came to yourself. One can be said to be in a trance. You don’t have to be asleep to have a vision but you can have a vision during sleep. Visions are usually clearer and shorter than dreams plus it can happen anywhere. Peter had a vision basically telling him to preach the gospel to the Gentiles, Saul had a vision that Ananias would put hands on him to recover his sight.

Just like dreams, sometimes you may have to ponder on the meaning.

God can speak to us through his angels. Don’t forget that there are innumerable number of angels in Heaven. And God often dispatches them to deliver messages to us, either physically or in the dream. Mary was given the news of Jesus’s impending birth by Angel Gabriel, an angel was the one who told Zechariah of John the Baptist’s birth. Sometimes they even appear in human form.

6) Pastors, prophets and other people.

For a variety of reasons, God can send another person to us. This is very common.  Could be a stranger, or a known person. In the Old Testament, God regularly spoke to the Israelites through Prophets. Wicked and idolatrous kings weren’t left out as God regularly pronounced judgement on them through his prophets.

7) The Word of God.

God also speaks through his Word, The Bible. You just have to read it and be familiar with it. Whatever answers we seeks are in the Bible. Even if you don’t dream or see visions, we have the Bible.   I have heard testimonies of people who prayed and a Bible verse was dropped in their Spirit, and that Bible verse when they looked at it, was God’s answer to them.

One thing we have to know is that God can speak through a variety of ways. The way he speaks to me may not be the same way he speaks to you. It is therefore unnecessary to be jealous of the way another person hears from God.

God also speaks to us in the way that will best get our attention at that moment. He can also speak on one issue through different channels. If you fail to a heed a warning via a dream, he can send someone to you, God can even speak to you through a feeling you just have.

The important thing is to be Born again. Heaven isn’t by who heard from God the most.

Watch out for the last part , on the things one can do to hear from God and why it is important to recognize his voice.

Which of the above ways do you normally hear from God?

I love your blog. It gives my so much joy to see what you’re doing. God bless you. Communicating with God is a refreshing feeling. When I talk to him, I don’t just do it as a Father to child relationship but as a Friend to friend relationship and I’m completely honest because it’s easier to relate with Him when you pour yourself out to Him just as you are.

Awww.Thanks Seyi. Your Blog is amazing too.
      Amen. And you too.
There’s nothing like knowing that you can communicate with God, anytime, any day. And it shouldn’t be all formal. Like you said, we can can talk to God like a friend. And of course it’s in our interest to be totally honest. I mean! He is God, he knows already what’s going on with us without our saying it, so why lie to him.

wow! This post is amazing and just what I needed tonight. God speaks to me through dreams, at times through a still voice and I’m so praying to God to sharpen my ears and eyes by opening my spiritual eyes and ears so I can hear from Him more. Thanks for this, bibi.

Do you believe that God speaks to you? If so, how can you be sure the voice you hear is God and not just…you? I strongly suggest that you watch this short video on this subject:

Yes Gary, I do believe that God speaks to me. In fact I KNOW that God speaks to me.
It’s not me. I am not an ?. No way I would know the gender of my Colleagues baby or even the name the mother would give it by my own power.
I would not be able to tell myself the future and warn myself like God has. There are countless other instances where God has spoken to me via dreams, the still silent voice and other channels.
It’s true that it could be me, but there are ways to know when God is speaking and when he is not. There will be posts on this later.
