You are a Prophet.

A few weeks back, someone asked me how I ended up as a member of my church, as in who introduced me to the church  and I casually mentioned that ” God told me to change my church”.

His next comment was both amusing and surprising.

He said ” Are you a prophet “. Lol.

Now, if his reaction was unusual, I may not be writing this post. But I have noticed that people are usually surprised and maybe a little but skeptical when I tell them ” God said this” or ” God told me that”.

I can’t blame them. I remember before I got born again and how I used to give pastors the side eye when they were on the pulpit and they said ” My father said I should tell someone here…..” or any word of prophecy at all.

I used to wonder how they heard from God, and why I couldn’t hear like them, I mean how exactly did the Holy Spirit disclose things?

It used to be very puzzling to me till I became born again, and I literally started hearing the Holy Spirit talk to me from inside.

I have literally taken steps like changing churches and leaving a job because of that voice. And I have not regretted it. In fact the few times I didn’t listen, I have regretted it big time.

As I grew in Christ, I heard even more from God, some deep stuff, some casual, some random, and some that didn’t even concern me.       ( Don’t underestimate what God can tell you, he can tell you anything about anyone and everything). However, it’s not everything God reveals to you that he wants you to reveal to others. Some of them are just for you to pray for that person, and it’s not for you to turn it to gossip because God revealed a secret to you about a particular person.

God can tell you your score in an exam, and I am not kidding, he can tell you the gender of the baby in a friend’s womb, he can show you your husband or wife to be ( I have read about this more than once) , a new church, a new location, an upcoming event, the number of children you will have, warn you about the enemy’s plans, the kind of job you will do, the kind of business you should go into ( I read about a lady who was very learned and God told her to start selling vegetables, she conceded and she built a house and became rich from those vegetables) , what your neighbor really thinks about you, the kind of business you shouldn’t go into, the places you should eat and buy food from, the kind of person your seemingly best friend really is in the spiritual realm, the source of your problems etc.

God can show you anything and everything, and the reason why a lot of us aren’t hearing from him is that we aren’t ready to pay the price.

We are not ready to consecrate ourselves, and some of us are lazy, we prefer to go to pastors and prophets ( which isn’t a bad idea) , but if your motive for always visiting prophets is to find someone who can see vision for you because you don’t want to pray and fast, then that is a bad idea. Besides, there are some things that God wants to show you. Not your pastor. Only you. There are some things about you and me that God will not show a thousand pastors because he might feel it’s not their business, but he will show you and me .

Because we are his children, because we are operating under a new covenant, because he promised that the Holy Spirit will come upon us.Us! Believers, Christians, Children of God.

In case you think I am lying, or you just doubt if it’s possible, Lets look at what both the new and old testaments say about this together.

Joel 2:28
“It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions”.

This promise is further reiterated in the New Testament.

Acts 2:17
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people; your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams”.

You and I are supposed to be prophets.  We should get visions, we should dream dreams, we  should prophesy to our friends and family. All those stuffs are part of our inheritance in Christ.

It is our right. And no one can take it away without our permission.

We should deliver good news to our family and friends, we should warn them of danger. What greater evangelism is that? Even if they don’t believe at first, they will acknowledge your God when the prophecy comes to pass.

Watch out for later posts on steps how God speaks to us and how to hear more from God
